Origins and Registration of the Work

An early version of the project was registered with Patamu in 2023. At the time, the work had the provisional title Annatar, initially chosen as a reference and tribute to the world of J.R.R. Tolkien.

The project subsequently grew, expanded and developed its own distinct identity. The title Annatar was therefore abandoned and replaced by La Seconda Terra / The Second Land.

The most recent version of the work was registered again with Patamu under its current title, documenting its evolution and its existence in its present form.

The two registrations represent different stages of the same creative journey:

Authorship and Creative Direction

Generative artificial intelligence was not used to conceive the fundamental idea of the work, create its narrative universe or establish its characters, races, mythology, plot and rules.

It was not used to determine how the story should continue, invent new narrative developments or establish the canon of the work.

The events, relationships between the characters, their motivations, conflicts, chronology, rules of the world and meaning of the story were established by the author.

Artificial intelligence was introduced at a later stage as a tool supporting the production, revision and presentation of material that had already been conceived under my creative direction.

How Artificial Intelligence Was Used

Artificial intelligence tools were used exclusively to support the production and presentation of the project, including:

• generating and developing visual material based on the author’s descriptions, instructions and choices;
• translating content into English;
• reviewing, rephrasing and adapting dialogue;
• shortening dialogue that was excessively long;
• improving the clarity, pacing and readability of conversations;
• suggesting how information already established by the author could be distributed within a conversation, without altering its content or narrative meaning;
• organising and presenting material already conceived and supplied by the author;
• laying out and preparing content intended for the presentation of the project;
• developing and updating the project’s website.

This support mainly concerned how existing material could be presented, translated, condensed or communicated more clearly.

Artificial intelligence did not determine what happens in the story and did not replace the author’s role in conceiving the project.

Every result produced with the support of these tools was assessed, selected, modified or approved by me. All final narrative and creative decisions remain under my direction and responsibility.

The Distinction Between Creation and Assistance

I openly acknowledge the use of artificial intelligence in the production process, particularly in the creation of visual material and in translation, revision, organisation and presentation.

However, this use must be distinguished from the creative authorship of the work.

The universe of The Second Land—its story, protagonists, races, eras, conflicts and mythology—did not originate from a request for artificial intelligence to invent a fantasy project.

Artificial intelligence worked from a universe, information and creative direction supplied by the author. Its contribution therefore belongs to the development and production stages, not to the fundamental conception of the work.

Removing AI-assisted material from the presentation solely to avoid possible prejudice would have meant providing a less authentic account of the production process. It would also have conflicted with the principles of transparency and fairness that I wish to maintain toward those evaluating the work.

I have therefore chosen to disclose its use openly and to distinguish clearly between technical and production assistance and the creative conception of the project, which remains entirely my own.
